Helios company has paid over 100 million tenge ($667 thousand) to the victims of the petrol truck accident in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the company’s Director General Konstantin Sviridov. The works on restoration of the apartments are underway. The windows have already been installed. According to Sviridov, all the works on restoration of the building’s facing and the ground-floor sport store are to be competed on August 5. Besides, he said, cold water supply and telephone communications are being restored. The elevator and the roof have already been repaired. According to Sviridov, rented apartments were provided by the company to 17 families from among those whose residents were damaged by the fire. Helios pays all the rental expenses which have already equaled to over 7 million tenge ($47 thousand). “The rent will continue until the apartments are fully repaired by the contractor hired by Helios,” Sviridov said. Meanwhile, the city administration provided a list of the evaluation companies and the building’s residents selected the Expert-Evaluation Company. All the evaluation costs are covered by the company as well. “55 damaged facilities (apartments, fast-food café, pharmacy, bookstore, beauty parlor, newsstand) have been evaluated. 32 of them have insignificant damages and 15 require overhauls. Depending on the preferences of their owners, the company offers a monetary compensation or repairs of damages based on statements of the independent evaluation company,” Sviridov said. Agreements on damage recovery have been signed with owners of 30 apartments and 5 commercial facilities. The compensations have been paid based on the statement of the independent evaluation company. Owners of the apartments who received the compensations have already started the restoration works independently. They have no claims against Helios, the speaker said. The contractor hired by Helios has already finished repairs in 1 apartment and is in process of repairing 6 other apartments. Sviridov also commented on the situation with burnt cars. According to him, 14 cars were checked (10 of them were damaged in the fire and 4 in the accident that preceded the flaring). “Evaluation statements were made on 10 of them. We have signed contracts with the owners of 5 cars. They will get their compensations in the nearest time. As for the owners of the cars that were damaged in the accident, their damage will be covered based on our insurance contract,” he said. The petrol tank lorry flared up near Rixos hotel in Almaty at the crossing of Seifullin and Kabanbay Batyr streets after crashing into an offroader on June 27. The truck’s driver died at the accident site because his door got jammed and he could not get out of the truck before the petrol inflamed. The fire moved on to the RealSport sports shop, and #138 Kabanbay Batyr residential building. According to the rescuers, 40 people were evacuated from the building. The 27-y.o. truck driver died on the spot. No casualties were reported. By Roza Yessenkulova
