There are people lobbying for Kazakhstan universities among deputies and government members, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Minister of Education and Science Bakytzhan Zhumagulov. "There is a lot of criticism of the allegedly unreasoned cuts of the universities. This is incorrect. Everything has been thoroughly considered and calculated. "The opposing has a different undercurrent. Each university has people in Astana who are lobbying its interests. There are such people among deputies, in the government and in all central bodies. People lobby so that we don't close these universities. This is not a secret for anyone," Zhumagulov said on the sidelines of the government meeting. Earlier the Minister told about slashing the number of the universities in Kazakhstan to 100 in two years. "This will allow us to reach the universities/population ratio accepted in developed countries. In the end most of Kazakhstan regions will have one public and one major private university each," Bakytzhan Zhumagulov said. By Altynai Zhumzhumina
