St Jude hurricane to reach Kazakhstan

St Jude hurricane that fiercely stormed Europe a couple days ago will reach the northern regions of Kazakhstan, though it is expected to be much weaker. According to the forecast it is going to land in Kazakhstan tomorrow. "The cyclone is moving east through the high layers of the atmosphere towards our territory: north-western and northern regions of Kazakhstan. We expect the storm in the northern parts of Northern Kazakhstan, Akmola and Kostanay Oblasts on November 1," the speakers of Kazhydromet, Kazakhstan national meteorological service, Marzhan Khusainova told KTK TV channel. It is expected to bring a cold snap to the northern and central regions of Kazakhstan. The temperature will go sharply down, as low as minus 10 degrees Centigrade in places. Only the country's southern parts will remain comparatively warm. The storm -- named Christian in France and dubbed St Jude by the British media, after the patron saint of lost causes whose feast day is Monday -- had been predicted to be the worst for a decade. It came from Atlantic ocean on October 28 and battered several European countries, including France, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and others. Winds reached 99 miles per hour (159 kilometres per hour) on the Isle of Wight off the southern English coast, according to Britain's Met Office. It let more than 300,000 homes without power across northern Europe on Monday and had trains and planes cancelled. Heavy rain and winds of 80 mph brought down hundreds of trees. That storm left 18 people dead in Britain and four in France and caused damage worth £1 billion ($1.6 billion).
