Kazakhstan’s Internet user are making fun of the torrential rains that hit Astana in mid-May, Tengrinews reports.

Heavy rains flooded many streets of Astana. Some Internet users compared Astana to Venice, saying that a boat or a helicopter could become an important means of transportation within the city because of a big rainfall that literally turned the streets into rivers.

An artist from Kazakhstan Ansagan Mustafa depicted her vision of Astana's weather: she drew a young man and woman in a boat sailing near Baiterek.

Young man on the video below saved his girlfriend from getting her feet wet and carried her in his arms across the street. What a true gentleman he is!

Some people joked about Kazakhstan being a land-locked country, which got its 'own sea'.

In mid-May over just one weekend a monthly rainfall hit Astana, flooding 27 apartment houses and several central streets. More than 15 thousand cubic meters of water were pumped away in two days.

The main reason behind the disaster was an insufficient capacity of street sewers and stormwater treatment system.
