A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit east Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center. The shocks were registered at 12:36 p.m. Astana time on February 1. The epicenter was 2km deep and 573km north-east of Almaty and 290km sough-west of Ust-Kamenogorsk. No casualties were reported. According to the press-service of East-Kazakhstan oblast Emergency Situations Department, the shocks were insignificant in the region. “Insignificant shocks were felt in East-Kazakhstan oblast at 12:34 p.m. The information is being processed. More precise information will be provided upon receipt of the data from Kazakhstan seismologists. Please stay calm,” the message states.
