Former head of BTA Bank Mukhtar Ablyazov is wanted in Italy, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to Kazakhstan Prosecutor General Askhat Daulbayev, Italian law-enforcement authorities are currently performing a search operation to define whereabouts of Ablyazov and other persons hiding at the territory of the country. “Those persons who are hiding in European countries are currently on their wanted lists. And if their location is discovered, all the necessary measures will be taken to apprehend and extradite them to Kazakhstan,” Daulbayev said. On May 29 Italian law-enforcement authorities held a special operation in a house in the suburbs of Rome, where, according to their information, Mukhtar Ablyazov was hiding. The former banker was not found in the house. Police found only his wife and daughter. On May 31 Alma Shalabayeva and her daughter Alua were deported to Kazakhstan for illegal stay at the territory of Italy under fake passport. Shalabayeva and her daughter are currently staying in Kazakhstan under a written pledge not to leave the country. Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry declared that Ablyazov’s wife will be questioned in Kazakhstan about his whereabouts. Atyrau court has recently issued rulings on the group of persons involved in forgery of passports for Mukhtar Ablyazov’s relatives that the latter used to secretly leave Kazakhstan. Three members of the group of forgers were sentenced to 2 to 9 years in prison.
