Several gunshots were made in Almaty in the morning of September 26 leaving one person dead, another wounded and a lot of money stolen, Tengrinews reports. The shooting took place at the crossing of Satpayev and Zheltoksan streets, right in the center of Almaty. According to one of the witnesses, the shooting started between 09:00 and 09:15 a.m. The man, who asked not to be named, could see the action from his office window and recorded some of it on his cell phone camera. "Two men of Asian appearance - one of them was wearing a jean jacket and had long hair - started shooting at two Slavic-looking men," he said. “There were 5-6 shots made. They had guns, but it was unclear whether those were traumatic or fire arms. The victims had guns as well. One of the victims fell right away. The other one was shooting back and then fell. It was unclear whether he managed to wound the attackers. "Two guards from nearby Turan University ran up and started chasing the shooters, but to no avail,” he said, adding that the attacks were running away through the yards to drop off the chase. They were headed in the direction of Abay street. The police arrived almost immediately, but it took the ambulance ten minutes to get there, the witness said. The two men who were attacked were employees of Travel Express company. They were transporting the company's money like cash-in-transit guards and using their private car to do it. When attacked they had 4 million tenge ($26,000) of the company money with them, according the preliminary information. The attackers stole the money. The police started an operation to intercept the attacks right after the shooting, but no one has been arrested so far. According to the press-secretary of Almaty Interior Department Yermek Bolyatev, the incident happened at 09:30 a.m. on September 26. “Employees of Travel Express company were attacked. The company sells air and railroad tickets. As a result of the attack one person was shot dead and another one was injured and delivered in one of the city hospitals in a grave condition. "A criminal case for murder (Article 96-2 of the Criminal Code) has been initiated. All the personnel of the Interior Department is working on identification of the attackers and a search operation is being held in Almaty. We are now defining the amount of money stolen and identifying the weapons used by the attackers,” Boltayev said. Travel Express company has confirmed that the two men who were attacked were its employees, but declined to make any further comments.
