Denyakin's murderer declared not guilty in U.S., appeal in Supreme Court expected

Criminal charges against the U.S. policeman who dubbed 11 bullets into Kirill Denyakin have been dropped by Portsmouth court, Radio Azattyk writes citing WAVY.com. Denyakin's family will appeal the court's decision. Kirill’s mother earlier told Tengrinews.kz that she feared that the case could be closed referring to her lawyer’s letter. “The case is moving along, but the defense has filed a motion to dismiss the case on legal grounds. This is a very common motion in these types of cases; and unfortunately with the governing law, we will probably have a difficult time winning the motion. However, we have responded to the motion and given the Court the very best case we have for why Kirill's case should not be dismissed,” the lawyer wrote to Yelena Denyakina, Kirill's mother. Denyakin's family claimed $22 million from Portsmouth police. They are now planning to apply to the Supreme Court. Yelena Denyakina noted that the trial on the civil case against Portsmouth police is still scheduled for February 28. 26-year-old Karaganda citizen Kirill Denyakin was shot by policeman Stephen D. Rankin in Portsmouth on April 23. Denyakin was unarmed, but the police officer made 11 shots killing him on the spot. Before the tragedy Denyakin had been working as a Portsmouth hotel cook for 2 years.
