A criminal case has been initiated on policemen’s shooting during supression of riots in Zhanaozen, Tengrinews.kz reports. “On December 27 General Prosecution initiated a criminal case on Article 308 of Kazakhstan Criminal Code against police officers for causing death by using weapons, abuse of power and authority with the use of weapons,” official representative of Kazakhstan General Prosecution Nurdaulet Suindikov said at the briefing on December 29. According to Suindikov, there is one criminal case on the use of weapons; investigation is currently underway and there is no exact number of the accused yet, “as it requires results of forensic tests”. “Criminal tests are being made, including ballistics test. The bullets are being checked, because we need to define which weapons the shots have been made from,” the official representative said. According to the latest confirmed information, 16 people died during riots in Zhanaozen. “Death of some of them is not related to actions of police officers," Nurdaulet Suindikov said. “The father of the dead teacher Atabergen Dyussekenov said that his son was murdered by vandals when he took his students to the holiday celebrations at the square. Nurlan Munalbayev, found dead in Sulpak store, died from fire. The murder of Atabai Kulkairov was solved recently. Zhanaozen resident was arrested on suspicion of this murder. According to witnesses, he was the one who shot Munalbayev on December 17 in Zhanaozen,” the representative said.
