Striking workers of Si Bu Engineering Drilling Company went back to work after a successful meeting with their oblast's Akim (Governor), Tengrinews.kz reports citing Mangistau oblast administration’s press-service. On January 26 Akim of Mangistau oblast Alik Aidarbayev met with the strikers in Zhetybai and North Buzachi fields. The meeting was also attended by managers of Si Bu company. “The meeting covered the current situation in the company. Workers were explained that it was important to follow labor legislation and organize protests properly. After the constructive meeting an agreement was made with the employer that the workers will be paid the '13th salary',” the press-service writes. Over 800 employees of Si Bu engineering company went on strike on January 26 in their attempt to get a salary raise, Interfax-Kazakhstan reported. “We stopped working at 08:00 a.m. We are currently in the camp at Buzachi field, there are around 150 of us. There are drilling companies in other fields, e.g. there are three drilling rigs in Zhetybai and one more in Kalamkas. The workers did not go to work in these fields either. The total of over 800 employees,” one of the strikers told Interfax-Kazakhstan back then. According to him, the strikers were demanding a salary raise and other payments. “We want a salary raise, the '13th salary' and a quarterly bonus,” he said. “A month ago we sent a letter to our management, but there was no answer, written or oral,” the speaker said.
