Naftogaz of Ukraine and The Rompetrol Group N.V. (100 percent owned by Kazakhstan national company KazMunaiGas) have signed a memorandum of intent to create a joint company for oil products marketing in Ukraine, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing the press-service of the state holding. The memorandum of cooperation between two companies was signed on July 16 in Kiev by deputy chairman of Naftogaz Yevgeniy Korneichuk and Director General of Rompetrol Group Zhanat Tusupbekov. The companies are going to cooperate in creation and development of a retail network of petrol stations in priority regions and major cities of Ukraine, as well as work in the secondary logistics system of the oil products market. The document also provides for cooperation in transshipment of oil and oil products that will help to load certain state facilities. “We hope to bring the number of petrol stations under the joint project to 700. We will offer our clients both premium and economy fuel brands. European experience of our partners will be very useful in our joint project,” the press-service cites Korneichuk. Tusupbekov reminded that Rompetrol has been a player of the Ukrainian market of oil products since 2000 and views it as a priority in its strategy. “In cooperation with Naftogax of Ukraine we hope to offer Ukrainian consumers a new quality standard of products and service at our jointly operated stations,” he said. Naftogaz of Ukraine controls around 11 percent of Ukrainian wholesale market of oil products via two producers: Shebelenskiy gas plant of Ukrgasvydobuvannya and Mariupol oil refinery of Azovsk Oil Company. The company also owns a network of oil depots in all the regions of Ukraine. Entering the retail market of oil products is one of the priorities for the company’s development.
