Karachaganak Petroleum Operating to increase local content

Deputy Akim (Governor) of West-Kazakhstan oblast Altai Kulginov met with Director General of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO B.V.) Damiano Ratti on October 24, the oblast administration’s press-service writes. The meeting was held in the company’s headquarters in Aksai and covered the issue of local content in procurement of goods, works and services by KPO B.V. The meeting was attended by representatives of West-Kazakhstan oblast Entrepreneurs Association, members of an expert group of manufacturers and entrepreneurs, as well as top managers of the consortium. “An important meeting was held with the company’s management on development of local content. We told he company's representatives about our manufacturing companies producing goods that may comply with standards and requirements of KPO B.V. The management of KPO B.V. expressed interest in supporting the local suppliers and small and medium business,” deputy Akim said. The parties agreed to take certain measures and practical steps towards increasing supplies of goods and services by local companies to Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. Karachaganak gas field is one of the largest in the world. Its oil reserves are estimated at 1.2 billion tons and gas reserves are estimated at 1.35 trillion cubic meters. At present the field is being developed by the international consortium called Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (BG Group – 32.5 %, ENI – 32.5 %, Chevron – 20 %, Lukoil - 15 %) based on the Production Sharing Agreement signed with Kazakhstan in 1997 for 40 years.
