ArcelorMittal Temirtau denies job cuts

ArcelorMittal Temirtau has denied nurturing plans to lay off its employees, Tengrinews reports citing Interfax-Kazakhstan. Baurzhan Abdishev, Akim (Governor) of Karaganda Oblast, asked the Head of ArcelorMittal Temirtau Vijay Mahadevan to minimize the job cuts during their meeting last week. The CEO of the company promised to make sure the company's actions do not escalated social tension. The management agreed to change the plans and keep as many jobs as possible. Based on this, they called the information on the planned axing of 2500 people outdated. However they did not specify how made jobs out of these 2500 they were ready to keep. ArcelorMittal Temirtau is part of ArcelorMittal multinational steel manufacturing corporation and is the biggest metallurgical enterprise in Kazakhstan. ArcelorMittal Temirtau includes a metallurgy complex in Temirtau, 8 coal mines in Karaganda Oblast and 4 iron ore mines in Karaganda, Akmola and Kostanay Oblasts.
