First widescreen cinema of the world-famous IMAX corporation has opened in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. Almaty residents will now be able to enjoy high-quality sound and image in Kinopark 11 Esentai cinema. What makes IMAX cinemas different is its huge dome-like screen, eliminating the so-called blind zones. The screen, along with the advanced sound system and 3D effects, gives a feeling of full presence. “IMAX technology uses two projectors to make the image projected onto the screen brighter. Another feature of the technology lays is its sound system. There are 5 speakers located throughout the hall. They are tuned by the laser. Any place in IMAX hall is perfect in terms of sound,” President of IMAX corporation Andrew Cripps said during the presentation. Tickets to Almaty IMAX cinema currently cost from 900 to 3,000 tenge ($6 to $20) depending on the time of day. Children’s and student’s tickets cost less than 2,000 tenge ($13). IMAX corporation has been on the market for the last 44 years and counts 689 cinemas in 52 countries. The company also cooperates with major movie producers and provides its technologies for movie-making.
