"Modern Family" made Emmy history on Monday, winning the title of best comedy series for a record-tying fifth year in a row at television's equivalent of the Oscars, AFP reports.

The hit show beat rivals "The Big Bang Theory," "Louie," "Orange Is the New Black," "Silicon Valley" and "Veep."

It is the only television show, along with Frasier (1994-1998), that has won five consecutive "Outstanding Comedy Series" Emmy awards.

He won the same prize in 2011.
