Famous British pianist James Kirby and talented Kazakhstani violin player Galiya Bisengalieva will perform on the Astana Opera stage, Tengrinews reports.

The concert sponsored by the British Council opens on May 17.

This year, Kirby celebrates his 50th anniversary with a series of concerts in the Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Scotland.

Bisengalieva has already performed on the stage of the capital’s opera house. For Kirby it will be the first time in the Astana Opera. The British musician sent warmest wishes to the Astana Opera audience. Kirby noted that he had a lot of friends in Kazakhstan.

“I love Kazakhstan and I have been here many times already. Last time I visited Astana was in 2004. That is why coming back is special for me. It is a great pleasure to perform with Galiya Beisengalieva, because I closely worked with her uncle Marat and father Sagadat Bisengaliev. I’m happy for the fact that Galiya whom I saw as a one-year-old girl for the first time, has become an exceptional violin player. We have selected an interesting program that includes Bach, Chopin, Lutosławski, Ravel and Mozart,” the British musician said.

The highlights of the night will be Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending and Peter Lawson’s Orchid pieces dedicated to Kirby’s anniversary and his love for flowers.

The Classical Music concert opens at 7:00 p.m. and the tickets start from $10 (2000 KZT). Tickets are available online. The Astana Opera is situated at Kunayev Street (crossing with Turan Av) in Astana.
