Kazakh singer Rosa Nurkey of Astana Opera has become one of the winners of the 3rd International Competition-festival of Choral, Instrumental Music and Academic Vocal in Turku, Finland, Tengrinews reports.

The competition took place from November 13 to 17. Artists from Finland, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, Estonia, Germany and Spain took part.

Rosa Nurkey represented Astana Opera, a Kazakhstani opera house, and won the second place along with a special diploma from the Russian Society of Composers. In addition, The World Sings concert took place during the competition where artists sang in their native languages. Nurkey chose a Kazakh song Ahau Bikem.

“It is always a great responsibility for a singer to represent her country and theatre. I performed arias from operas as well as works by Jean Sibelius in Swedish. The preparation took a lot of time. We have worked a lot with the accompanist. Competitions are a part of my life. There have been around 20 of them so far. Despite the ups and downs, these competitions gave me great experience and priceless confidence in my abilities. However, there is always room for improvement. Next year I plan to participate in a number of European competitions,” the singer said.

In 2012 Nurkey won the first place in a competition in Armenia, while in 2013 she won the second place in Future Stars competition in Turkey.
