Zhauzhurek Myn Bala drew tears from Cannes Festival audience

Yermek Amanshayev, KazakhFilm president, who attended the Cannes Festival commented on the audience’s reaction after Zhauzhurek Myn Bala (1000 Brave Boys) also known as The Brave was screened at the festival, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to the president of KazakhFilm (Kazakhstan national film-making company) two Kazakhstan movies - Zhauzhurek Myn Bala (The Brave) and The Student were screened at the festival. Amanshayev said that The Student was honored with a screening in Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival (the second Cannes program in order of importance). “The audience is the same everywhere. They share common emotions, common feelings. The European and Kazakhstan spectators perceive Zhauzhurek Myn Bala (The Brave) in the same way. Spectators reacted quite adequately: they were had tears in their eyes. They were very emotional after the show. Everybody says that Myn Bala (The Brave) is as good as any Hollywood blockbuster. The described it as a pure romantic epic movie,” KazakhFilm (national film-making company) president said. Amanshayev also said that KazakhFilm had already chosen a sales agent. The film company was planning to meet Universal Studios and other companies to discuss expansion of the selling territory. “Then we had a serious meeting with new top management of CNC (French Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image Animée). We signed a memorandum with the Center last year and now we discussed details of co-production with French film producers,” he said. According to Amanshayev, two Kazakhstan projects had already applied for CNC's contest. Famous French actor Gerard Depardieu will be starring in one of the project. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that international distributors purchased two Kazakhstan movies The Student and Zhauzhurek Myn Bala for international distribution.
