Buying used cars more feasible for Kazakhstan residents

Buying used cars is more feasible for Kazakhstan’s average car-owners, head of Kazakhstan Independent Car Union Eduard Edokov told Tengrinews.kz. “Used cars are a better option by price-quality ratio than new ones,” Edokov said. According to him, the average and affordable price of a car is $20 thousand. One cannot buy a good new car for this amount of money. The expert notes that the current situation is complicated. On the one hand, it is expensive to buy new cars. On the other hand, the number of cheap and good-quality (used) cars has decreased dramatically because they are not being imported to Kazakhstan. “It is quite difficult to find good and freshly imported used cars for $15-20 thousand. That’s why people are switching to automobile showrooms. Some time earlier Kazakhstan residents could buy a small offroader for this amount of money, but now they have to buy low-powered cars from the showrooms. I believe that one should search for good used cars while there are still some for sale in the country,” Edokov said. Besides, the expert mentioned one of the disadvantages of buying a new car from a car dealer. “When you buy a car from a showroom, its cost plunges 30 percent down as soon as you drive out of the showroom,” he said. Besides, less Kazakhstan residents are apt to take loans to buy a car these days.
