Kazakhstan will get bike taxis in 2014, head of Kazbrand public fund Yevgeniy Ribalko told Tengrinews.kz.

According to him, the new transport will not look anything like Asian pedicabs. Kazakhstan bike taxi is a model optimized in Berlin in 1997. “This is an ecology-friendly type of transport and we plan to launch it prior to the EXPO-2017,” Ribalko said. 6 bike taxis will be bought from the Netherlands next year, he said. The total cost of the project is 20 thousand Euro.

At the initial stage the organizers will test the bike taxis in Pavlodar in 2014 and will then launch the project in major Kazakhstan cities: Almaty and Astana. The cost of the trip in this taxi will make 20 tenge ($0.13) per minute and 600 tenge ($4) per 30 minutes. Besides, the creative project will create jobs for 12 people. The initiators plan to hire students to a monthly salary of 60 thousand tenge ($400). Yevgeniy Ribalko has presented his project at the ideas contest Atameken Startup: the fund is searching for investors.
