Kazakhstan Minister of Foreign Affairs meets US Assistant Secretary of State

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Bismal, Tengrinews.kz citing the press office of the Ministry.


Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Bismal, Tengrinews.kz citing the press office of the Ministry.

Nisha Desai Bismal arrived to Kazakhstan on a diplomatic mission on April 2. She visited Almaty and gave a speech at Eurasian National University in Astana.

Cooperation in trade and investments was the main topic of the meeting between Idrissov and Bismal. The Minister of Foreign Affairs reminded of President Nazarbayev’s interest in participation of American companies in industrial and innovative project in Kazakhstan and invited American companies to partake in the upcoming EXPO-2017 that will be held in Astana.

The Minister and the Assistant Secretary also discussed urgent problems of international politics and regional security. In particular they dwelt on the recent events in Ukraine.

Since 1993, the amount of American investments into Kazakhstan’s economy has exceeded $25 billion. There are more than 300 Kazakh-American companies working in the key sectors of Kazakhstan's economy. In 2013, the commodity turnover between the two countries amounted to $2.75 billion, which exceedsthe  2012 figure by 9%.
